| Photomontages [image gallery] In 1993, Photomontage was the simplest, most no-nonsense, and yet creative language for my purpose. An image, a single click of camera shutter could depict; two clicks brought together to create a third meaning. Making visual connections allowed me to break through the sea of media images in which sometimes I felt I was drowning. My work in this area had a single principal theme: the effect of international political decisions on the private lives of people of third world countries. The need for these messages was clear; my juxtapositions were designed, quit literally, as equations, breaking down those barriers to understanding that threatened to engulf us – and to explicate in the clearest possible way the real consequences of continued commitment to global struggle for power. |
